Stonehill will be adding Men’s Golf to its varsity lineup in 2007, the 25th varsity sport for the college.
The announcement comes after Stonehill agreed to buy the Easton Country Club.
The Men's Golf team, which will begin play in the 2027-2028 year, will compete in the New England Conference (NEC), joining Binghamton, Chicago State, FDU, Howard, Le Moyne, LIU, Mercyhurst, NC Central, New Haven, UMES, and Wagner.
This is the second varsity sport Stonehill added this year. The first was the Men’s Swim and Dive team, which will begin the 2026-2027 season.
The Men’s Golf team will be the 25th Division I athletics team and the 22nd team on campus to compete in the NEC.
Nick Crovetti, the Head Coach of women’s golf, said he was very excited but also anxious.
He said, “[I] can’t believe it actually happened. [We are] looking forward to watching it come to fruition.”
Building a new team from the ground up has its challenges, but Crovetti said they will look to the well-established women's program for guidance.
Crovetti said the standards for the new Men’s program will be the same as those for the Women's.
“[The Women’s Team] is based on high personal and team morals, a team-first mentality, and to establish the right attitude, effort, and goals that align with program standards,” said Crovetti.
“It's good to see the College continue to expand, offer new opportunities, and have a progressive growth mindset behind the Athletic Department, which is driven by a lot of amazing individuals that I work with on a weekly basis,” said Crovetti.
Senior member of the Women’s Golf team, Caitlin Anderson, said the acquisition of the Easton Country Club and launch of the Men's team will be huge for the future growth of the program.
“Adding a men’s team is a great step for growing the Stonehill golf program,” said Anderson.
She said she hopes alumni will be encouraged to stay involved with the program through initiatives such as discounted green fees at the Easton Country Club. Anderson said the addition of a simulator in the future would benefit the program during the winter when they cannot practice outside.
Coach Crovetti said he sees a bright future for the men's team.
“Up and running smoothly with a full roster of talented young men who will represent Stonehill on and off the golf course to the best of their abilities.”
For the women’s program, he said his hopes are high.
“Vying for a Conference Championship, and NCAA Regional bid as we continue to evolve, compete in more prestigious events, and recruit the best student-athletes that fit our team culture, who also graduate and move on with a bright future ahead of them.”
