Letter from the Editor: Welcome back!

Dear Reader,

Welcome back to campus! The start of a new school year is always exciting at Stonehill. There are so many events happening all around campus and so many new faces!

First, I want to start by introducing myself. My name is Maddi Achtyl, and I am the editor-in- chief of The Summit this year. I am currently a senior majoring in Healthcare Administration with a concentration in Public Health, and my minor is Journalism. I am also a four-year member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team and work at the Career Development Center as a Career Ambassador.

Writing has always been a passion of mine, and so it is an honor to manage the paper this year. If you told me in my freshman year at Stonehill I would be in this position, I would probably tell you that you're crazy, but here I am, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Last year, I was the news editor, working with the previous editor in chief, Caleb Tobin, as well as the rest of The Summit staff. They taught me so much and have allowed me to enter this year feeling very prepared to take on this new role.

This year, I am joined by a talented group of staff members, our largest group in years with 18 members. We are all very eager to get to work.

The past few weeks, I have been working on updating the staff list, which can be found HERE, with our staff’s current information. One of our goals for the year is to enhance our social media presence across all platforms, so feel free to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and X (@thesummitnews) and on LinkedIn (@The Summit). A TikTok page is going to be up and running soon, so stay tuned!

The Summit is student-run, meaning every article is written by students for the community. Our staff work hard to publish a variety of stories ranging from news to features to opinion pieces covering all aspects of campus life. We also cover state, national, and international events in the interest of the Stonehill community.

Our first print edition comes out on September 17 and can be found campus, so be on the lookout.

We will also be at this year's Activities Fair on Thursday, August 28 from 3:15-5 pm, so please come by and say hi.
