Letter From the Editor: Happy February!

Updated: 2 hours ago

Dear Reader,

Welcome back for the Spring semester, and happy 2026! We hope you enjoyed your winter break at home with friends and family, or wherever you spent the holidays. After three months of being away, The Summit is proud to be publishing our fourth print issue of the year and bringing you the latest news at Stonehill. While we have been busy publishing articles on our website, it is always exciting to come together as a whole staff to produce and publish our print issues.

With the recent extreme temperature drop and heavy snowfall, we have a few articles about the snow day students received and students who sledded down Donahue, a Stonehill tradition for snow days. We have also been digging deeper into some topics we first reported on last semester, including the nursing program, as the College has received approval to begin admitting students for the fall 2026 semester.

The College also recently announced that the artist Flo Rida will perform at Stonehill's spring concert this year, and students are very excited. Arguably, this is the most excited I have been for a spring concert at Stonehill during my four years here, and I know many students are saying the same. Be sure to check out Martha’s article to read more about the concert.

Annie Renz covered many events on the sports side of things over the last few months. Most recently, she spoke to members of the Sports Management Super Bowl 60 groups, a group of students who had the opportunity to network with some of the greatest stars in sports at one of the biggest events in the U.S. You can also check out what our sports teams accomplished during the month of December while we were away.

Seniors are less than 100 days from graduation, which means the senior 100 Days event was held last Friday. Maddie covered the event to let us know how some of the seniors who attended were feeling, given how close to graduation they are. The next event for seniors is the 50 Days Dance, so be on the lookout for that in the future.

As always, be sure to follow us @thesummitnews on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and X to stay up to date on all the articles we post between print editions. As always, you can contact us with questions, concerns, or tips on a story. You can also reach out to me directly at machtyl@students.stonehill.edu.

This February issue of The Summit is the first paper of the Spring semester and can be found in buildings across campus. Our fifth print issue of the year will be published in March. Until then, we will continue to post articles on our website at summitnews.org and on social media.

On behalf of The Summit staff, I hope you enjoy the February issue. Stay warm, Skyhawks.
