Letter from the Editor: Almost there!

Dear Reader,

It’s the last edition of the Fall semester! It is crazy to think that this semester is almost over and that we have only three more editions left in the school year before I pass the role of Editor-in-Chief to another Summit staff member next year. We are all in the home stretch; finals are right around the corner, as is Thanksgiving break, which will serve as a much-needed little break before the grind of final exams begins.

This past month, the staff has been hard at work covering a variety of stories and events on and off campus. Kyla Smulski covered some changes coming to Stonehill’s Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) this upcoming summer, including a shorter program and free on-campus housing for students. Mack Eon, News Editor, attended the State of the Hill event held by SGA on November 17, where President Father John Denning gave an updated outline of the developing 5-year plan, including the ‘Build to Raise’ initiative and the addition of the nursing program being added next fall. Check out the full articles in the News section and on our website.

Two Stonehill students also took home crowns in different pageants. Sophomore Jamie St. Onge took home the Miss Somerset title on November 15, and Senior Sophia Thomas took home Miss Taunton on November 2. Be sure to read about their success and future plans in the News section.

Senior Audrey Sears shared an article she wrote during her internship in Armenia this past summer. She also created a video, which can be found on our Instagram (@thesummitnews). In her article, she discusses the impact jazz music has had on Armenian culture over the last century. Be sure to check out her work in the Features section and on our website and Instagram.

One of students' favorite events, Skyhawk Madness, took place on October 22. This event is among the most anticipated of the fall semester. Mylee Santos wrote about the Stonehill Rukus dance team’s performance at the event, including a special appearance of a member of the team dressed as the artist Pitbull. More about the performance can be found in our sports section. Also in our sports section, you can find more information regarding Athletics' recent announcement about the addition of a Men’s Swimming and Diving program that is set to start next season. Sports Editor Annie Renz spoke to a current member of the Women’s Swim and Dive team about the program's exciting addition.

Be sure to follow us @thesummitnews on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and X to stay up to date on all the articles we post between print editions. As always, you can contact us with questions, concerns, or tips on a story. You can also reach out to me directly at machtyl@students.stonehill.edu.

This November issue of The Summit is the last paper before winter break and can be found in buildings across campus. Our fourth print issue of the year will be published in February. Until then, we will keep posting articles on our website at summitnews.org and on social media. Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday season!
