As people are still being affected by COVID-19, medical personnel, such as doctors, nurses, and first responders, are struggling to find protective equipment.

To provide relief, professors Bronwyn Bleakley, Marilena Hall, and Fatima Seuffert, along with director of Health Services, Maria Sullivan, collected and sent equipment to Easton’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital, and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

Among the donated items were, “N95 masks, nitrile and vinyl gloves, face shields, gowns, and alcohol prep pads,” Bleakley said. These items were collected from the various biology and chemistry labs, as well as health services, as they are not needed this current semester, due to Stonehill’s mandatory closure.

“All of the people involved in collecting and delivering the items have been taking every precaution to keep from contracting the virus,” Bleakley said. Additionally, Stonehill’s facilities staff have been “working tirelessly to clean buildings before the state stay-at-home order was enacted.”

According to the Massachusetts government website, as of April 14, Plymouth county has had 2466 confirmed cases, with at least 1202 cases centered in Brockton. Bristol county has had 1605 confirmed cases, with at least 113 cases centered in Easton. Massachusetts Governor, Charlie Baker, declared a state of emergency on March 10, ordering all non-essential businesses to cease in-person operation. In addition, Baker has limited gatherings to 10 people.
