These Students are Hooked on Crocheting

Sitting at the tables in the library's Disco room, the members of the college's crocheting club were swapping stories about what item they planned to sell during Homecoming Weekend.
Several planned to crochet ghost-like figures. Others were working on items with a fall theme.
The group, which boasts close to 25 members, meets every Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Disco room on the first floor of the library. But it changes where they meet every semester.

Katie McVey, a junior at Stonehill College and the treasurer of the club, has been a member of the club since freshman year.
McVey said she did not know how to crochet before joining the club but quickly learned.
Campbell Needel, a senior and secretary of club, has been a member since her sophomore year spring of 2025.
"It is a perfect way to give people gifts and it is a nice way to destress," Needel said.
Sarah Shea, a senior at Stonehill College and the social media chair for the crocheting club, has been in the club since it was founded her freshman year in March of 2024.
"It's a great way to connect with other people and it's a good way to destress and bond over a hobby that I enjoy," Shea said.
Katelyn Moltenbrey, a junior at Stonehill College and vice president of the club, joined her freshman year.
Moltenbrey said she enjoys being in the club, and it is a good way to talk to her friends and do something nice for the community.
Haily Rubin, a freshman at Stonehill College, said she likes to crochet in her free time, and she hoped to learn more by joining the club.
"Everyone is so nice and welcoming, and I have learned to make a circle since joing the club back in August," she said.
Sydney Tambo, a freshman at Stonehill College, said she was in her high school's crocheting club, enjoyed it and wanted to continue. She said she enjoys the club and everyone is welcoming.
