The Graphic Design Annual “TRANSCEND” created an in-person exhibit in the Carole Calo Art Gallery in Cushing-Martin Hall to display various works from Senior Graphic Design Majors.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have been the lead coordinator for TRANSCEND, the 2021 Senior Graphic Design Annual,” Senior Erin Mason said.
At first, the senior class was unsure if they would be able to pull off an in-person exhibition due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines. However, the gallery and reception were held in person on April 8.
“There are really no better words to describe our class and circumstances than transcend,” Senior Kelsey Clark said. Clark designed the logo and helped brand the annual. Clark said she wanted to make a trying situation into something beautiful and memorable.
When designing the logo, the triangular prism, Clark paid attention to every single detail.
“The logo prism can be viewed from many different angles and perspectives, just like life and our experiences,” Clark said. “It tells a story about our time here at Stonehill.” The pink of the logo represents their lives before Stonehill, the purple symbolizes their life at Stonehill, and the blue represents their journey after college.
The exhibit showcased all 15 graphic design seniors, all with work they completed during their time at Stonehill or abroad. Some exhibits included advertisements for fake or real products or creative event posters. Some even showed branding packages for products.
The 15 dots of the logo represent the 15 seniors, according to Clark. “This design annual was very much a group effort, so the arrangement of the dots also shows how we help each other and lift each other up together as a team,” Clark said.
“I’m really proud of my fellow designers,” Senior Taylor Robertson said. “We came together working day and night to create something we’re all excited about.”
“I’m really proud of what the fifteen of us were able to accomplish with the guidance of talented, inspiring professors in the graphic design and VPA departments,” Mason said. “It has been so fulfilling to be surrounded by such unique creativity – both over the course of the semester and throughout the past four years.”
With a small cohort, the seniors grew close through taking many courses together and working collaboratively on various projects.
“At its core, TRANSCEND is our tribute not only to our years here but also all of the years to come! I feel so lucky to have been a part of this class.”
“The show does a fantastic job encapsulating our experiences over the past four years,” Robertson said.
“Our class has grown alongside each other during most of our time at Stonehill,” Mason said. “I truly could not have ‘designed’ a better family to share that time with.”
