BY JUSTINE LONG

What are you involved in on campus?

I am a Lab Assistant, a PLTL leader, an Orientation Leader, and am involved in Dance Club and Chem/Biochem Club. I was also lucky enough to be awarded top chemistry graduate.

What do you do for your chemistry research?

I have been involved in research with Professor Rogers since the Fall of 2021. During my time, I ran various experiments involving DNA quantification and measuring gene expression levels. I was also able to further my research through NSF funding this past summer with Professor Rogers. Using all of the research that I had completed, I was able to defend my thesis this semester in front of the whole Chemistry/Biochemistry Department. By defending my thesis, I was able to showcase what I had discovered about the deep sea and gene expression levels to demonstrate an understanding of how life can exist at such deep levels.

What is your favorite memory at Stonehill?

One of my favorite memories at Stonehill was meeting my best friends. I had met them all through Dance Club, and when COVID struck campus, I was separated from them because we lived in different buildings. However, we are now seniors and all really close and I couldn't have asked for a better group of friends. We have done so many things together, by going out to dinner, going to shows, or celebrating 50 days, and I'm going to be sad to graduate.

What is your advice to first-year students?

Get involved!!!! I know it probably sounds cliche, but it's true. I have met some of the best people in my life by getting involved on campus, whether it be through clubs or leadership experiences like being an Orientation Leader, but everything I have been involved in has made my four years here worth it. I know that being a freshman can be slightly scary, especially being in a new environment, but there are so many people that are willing to help you out. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't be afraid to get involved. It's one of the best things you can do to really gain the best Stonehill experience :)

What are you looking forward to as a graduate?

I am looking forward to expanding my chemistry knowledge in a direction that will lend me a job in either forensic chemistry, cosmetic chemistry, or marine chemistry. It's a lot of options to choose from, but I think that they are all super cool so I am excited to see which direction I will go in!

Letter from the Editor: Almost there!

Dear Reader,  It’s the last edition of the Fall semester! It is crazy to think that this semester is almost over and that we have only three more editions left in the school year before I pass the rol
