Stonehill raises parking permit prices

By Mylee Santos

Stonehill increased parking permits to $200, a $50 increase, which gave some students mixed feelings about the hike.

“I do think that increasing the price is justified, I think it’s a way to make sure there’s less cars on campus,” Christina Fellone, a sophomore, said.

“I think there should be rules on parking in particular, like [Notre Dame Du Lac] lot, I think you should have to live in this building to park here, Fellone said.

Morgan Gagnon, a sophomore, said students should be required to park in a particular lot at times. “I think if you’re going to leave, or if you’re not driving your car, you should have it in lot 17.”

Since freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus, the question arises: Should that be changed, and would that stop students from coming to Stonehill?

“I don’t think it would’ve deterred me from coming here,” said Gagnon.

Fellone said the parking crunch could be eased if freshmen didn’t have cars. “Obviously, there’s not enough parking on campus, so like if it comes down to that, then freshmen shouldn’t have cars on campus,” said Fellone.

Sinead Hogan, a junior, said there may be a different way to ease the parking crunch. “I think there should definitely be a lottery system for the freshman so only a select amount of freshmen can have their car on campus, instead of raising the parking permit.”

Hogan offered a second solution.

“I know they want it to look pretty, but there’s so much open land where they could put more parking,” said Hogan.
