Fewer students attended the Spring Career Fair this year, but a career development official said it’s not too late to plan for postgrad job hunt.
According to Career Development, 184 students attended the fair, fewer than past fairs with 250 people who attended this past fall fair and 300 who attended the last spring fair.
Reflecting on this, Career Development official hopes to improve next year’s attendance and emphasizes the importance of this event.
“This is the largest recruiting event of the year and an important and unique opportunity to meet employers, practice speaking with recruiters, and explore a variety of fields and job functions without having to leave campus. It’s an easy way for anyone to boost their search for future opportunities,” said Director of Career Development Andrew Leahy.
The Spring Fair is the final major event of Career Development for the year, not the last.
For seniors, Career Development is holding an event, “Get a Job by Graduation,” on March 22nd. Students can register for events through Handshake.
Leahy said planning for post-graduation pays off.
“Typically, 70% of the students crossing the stage at graduation report having confirmed a placement, a first destination, for after graduation. That number increases to 90% at six months after graduation, then around 95% at one year after graduation,” Leahy said.
According to Career Development, around 74% grads polled said they have interacted with Career Development at least once in their senior year.
“While the current economy is a challenging one, it is important to know Stonehill students continue to land opportunities in employment, graduate school, and service. However, the application and search process takes longer, and students are having to apply for more opportunities. If anyone is putting off their search, I strongly encourage them to begin earlier than they may be planning,” Leahy said.
He urged students to book an appointment with Career Development to get started on planning.
“Students of all class years, majors, and all levels of career readiness are welcome. We are ready for you,” he said.
