Stonehill College’s Student Government Association General Assembly election season is now in full swing.

The nomination process began on March 17, and the positions offered are: President, Vice President, Public Relations Coordinator, Diversity Representative, and Class Representative.

Students will be campaigning for positions to make a positive change at Stonehill. The class vice presidents play a key role in handling financial matters and are voting members of the Finance Committee.

“They meet bi-weekly to allocate funds to recognized student organizations,” said Steve Pagios, director of Student Engagement, in an email about the committee. “They try and do so in a responsible, consistent manner, hopefully avoiding any challenges.”

The diversity representative sits on the Diversity Committee and serves as a voting member. The representative also works with the executive diversity chair on diversity-related event programming.

The class representative serves on the Clubs and Constitution Committee, where the person acts as a liaison for some clubs that are trying to be recognized by Stonehill’s governing body.

The person holding this position also serves on other committees.

“Each representative is assigned a new student organization, and they touch base with them throughout the year to answer any questions,” said Pagios.

The public relations coordinator is responsible for documenting and sharing Class Committee meetings, while promoting class events through flyers, newsletters, and social media campaigns.

This individual also encourages students to become more involved on campus.

“All members of SGA will then work with student organizations, both current and new, to become more involved on campus. Additionally, SGA will put on initiative-based events throughout the year to further engage with the community,” said Pagios.

The president position holds the most responsibilities, presiding over the entire student body. The president holds two prescheduled office hours per week, determines committees’ meeting schedules, and creates written agendas for each weekly meeting. They also serve on the President’s Committee, all while addressing important class-related issues.

“Even with these responsibilities, I have seen some amazing students flourish and advocate for student needs. The SGA Executive Boards have also been a group that consistently impresses me,” Pagios said.
