Seniors Appreciate Senior Appreciation Week

The Summit

By Madison Pimental

In early March, the Senior Events Committee collaborated and spent a week appreciating the Senior class through senior-only events, discounts, and signs.

Signs congratulating and thanking the class of 2021 adorned the campus, with various offices posting on social media and providing their own celebrations.

The Office of Residence Life placed signs outside Senior’s doors thanking the Senior Resident Assistants, while the Center for Writing and Academic Achievement highlighted their Senior tutors on Instagram.

“It’s nice to see people are doing what they can to make this the best year for us,” Senior Rachel Weinreb said.

Student Government Association Executive President Abe Medeiros said, “The creation of Senior Appreciation Week this year was very important considering how this year has been particularly hard on our class.”

Students enjoyed the Senior only events such as trivia, bingo, and virtual Senior cocktails with faculty members.

“Trivia was the most fun,” Weinreb said. “Obviously I wanted this year to turn out a little differently, but I feel like at this point you have to make the most of it.” Weinreb said.

The Chair of the committee, Jessica Cockcroft wanted to let the Seniors know they weren’t forgotten about, even if the traditional Senior events were canceled for the Spring.

“Since we aren’t really able to have in-person events such as 100 days, 50 days etc., we wanted the class of 2021 to know that they aren’t forgotten about and that they are appreciated,” Cockcroft said.

Medeiros agreed with this sentiment, saying “I would be lying if I said it wasn't heartbreaking to not be able to live out our senior year in a normal fashion,” and expressed how he and other Seniors looked forward to the normal Stonehill traditions.

Weinreb also expressed disappointment in how parents can’t come to graduation but is excited for it to be in-person. “We’ll celebrate in a different way,” Weinreb said.

Seniors can look forward to some upcoming Senior-only events, according to Cockcroft. In April, Seniors can look forward to a socially distanced beer tasting event.

“There are some things in the works, but I can’t disclose anything right now,” Cockcroft said. “We as a committee want the Senior class to know that they are not forgotten about and that although this isn’t the senior year we planned, we hope to make it memorable.”
