Too early for Christmas?

The Summit

By Kaitlyn Simmons

People don’t always agree on the same things: pineapples on pizza? (absoLUTELY not) Remote or clicker? (I use them interchangeably) Reese’s or Reese’s (you read that in two different ways, too, right?) But I think one of the most controversial topics that people never seem to agree upon has to do with where we are right now: when do you start celebrating Christmas and the holidays? Beginning of December? Beginning of October?

Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating Thanksgiving and seeing all of my extended family, but sometimes, especially with how 2020 has gone, this year I needed to get into the Christmas spirit early: I set up my mini tree in my room November 1 (and I have to say, it looks pretty dang good)! Now, typically I put up my holiday decor in my dorm when we come back from Thanksgiving break, but as we aren’t going to be back on campus until the end of January, I wanted to give my room a touch of the holiday season. Plus, this is when a lot of YouTubers I follow start the tradition of “Vlogmas” where they post a vlog every single day up until Christmas. Some start November 1, while others start right after Thanksgiving, and some start right on December 1.

When I asked what my friends thought of the matter, most of them said they start getting into the holiday spirit mid November. One of my friends said that he will listen to a couple of Christmas songs the first week of November, but then save the rest until the start of December. However, we all agreed that this year was different, and we all are starting to get into the holiday spirit much earlier than we usually do.

What do you think? When do you start getting in the holiday spirit?
