OPINION: Mondays... Am I right?

The Summit

By Elizabeth Ednie

Monday was just one of those days. Those days where nothing really goes right and where your mood worsens as the hours pass. Monday’s are not usually stressful for me, as I only have one class in the afternoon and use the day to mentally prepare for the upcoming week and get small tasks done. This past Monday was NOT one of those Mondays.

I woke up early to workout before my 9 a.m. shift at the Sports Complex and noticed that the Bite app wasn’t working mid-workout. I like to order breakfast from Au Bon while I’m at the gym so I can pick it up on my way back to the Junior Courts. This irritated me, as I now had to find another way to get food into my system before a three hour cleaning shift. I rushed to get back to my room to shower and get ready for work, a little flustered and hungry of course, and right when I step into the shower the water is ice cold and isn’t warming up. I waited for 10ish minutes to see if it would get hotter… it never did. I got out of the shower and checked the sinks and there was no hot water there either. Great. No hot water in the house, so dry shampoo and tons of deodorant and perfume it is. At this point, I was thinking to myself, could this day get any worse? It’s not even 8:30 a.m. yet.

It did. At least Dunkin’ didn’t mess up my coffee like they normally do, because that would have set me over the edge. After my shift ended at 12p.m., the Bite app still wasn’t working. I decided to go to Aces to pick up a salad before a meeting to work on a project with a peer. I get to the computer lab in Duffy where class is held to open up our Digital Media Production project, and it’s nowhere to be found. Lovely. We spent last class downloading our video clips to the computer, Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as Outlook and it’s not there whatsoever. At least another classmate came into the lab to work on her project, and hers is missing too. I’m glad to know I didn’t do anything wrong while saving it, but it’s still frustrating because the project is due next Tuesday and video production is not one of my strong suits.

Having a day like Monday makes me appreciate all of the days that actually go well. It happens every once in a while, and I’ve learned to just make do and move on. It’s only one day, and tomorrow is a new chance to turn it around. The water heater eventually got fixed, the Bite app resolved its issues mid-day, and we’ll have to see about the missing project. But it’s not the end of the world. A day like today is an opportunity to learn more about myself and how to overcome the challenges that come in my path. Life is not a smooth road. It has bumps, curves, and blind drives but eventually, everything works out. I wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason, and maybe today was just a reminder that not everything will go as planned, but it will all be okay in the end.
