X Ambassadors and Misterwives will be performing at the Sports Complex on Friday, April 22 for the first Spring Concert since COVID.
Associate Director of Campus Programs Lina Macedo, said the Spring Concert has been a long-standing tradition, occurring annually for over 25 years.
The Student Government Association (SGA) Programming Concert/Coffeehouse Committee announced the spring concert date and revealed the performers at Brother Mike’s on Thursday, March 24.
According to AllMusic.com, Sam Nelson Harris, Casey Harris, Adam Levin, and Noah Feldshuh are the core members of X Ambassadors, a pop band. Their hit singles include “Renegades” and “Unsteady” from their VHS album which reached number seven on the Billboard 200.
X Ambassadors rose to popularity after joining Imagine Dragons on tour and being featured in a commercial for Dr. Dre’s Beats.
MisterWives is an indie-pop band with five group members: Etienne Bowler, Jesse Blum, Mandy Lee Duffy, Marc Campbell, and William Hehir, according to AllMusic.com.
In 2016, MisterWives toured with a popular pop band, Panic! At the Disco. Since then, they released an album titled “Connect the Dots” which reached the Billboard Alternative chart at number 19.
Macedo said concert tickets will be sold for $15 at the information desk in the lower commons the week leading up to the show, from Tuesday, April 19 to Friday, April 22.
She said the entry process will be no different than other events. Tickets will be checked upon entrance and there will be security with metal detectors. There will be water stations, but no food or a beer garden.
“Currently, doors are set to open at 7 p.m. The set times are still being worked out but the order will be the student opener Shelby Donovan, MisterWives, and X Ambassadors,” Macedo said.
She said all students will be allowed to bring a maximum of two guests to the concert, but they must be registered. To register a guest students must log in to Myhill and fill out the guest registration form.
“I think this is a great opportunity to be together with friends and dance and enjoy some great performances,” Macedo said.
The most recent spring concert happened two years ago on April 5, 2019, with Chelsea Cutler, Sage the Gemini, and JID performing.
Senior Emma MacIntyre said she attended the spring concert her freshman year and is planning to go this year.
She said she remembers it being crowded and hot because of the lights and everyone trying to get closer to the stage.
“The atmosphere was a little bit overwhelming if you were in the center or towards the front of the stage, but there was plenty of space to stand or hang out if you didn't want to be with so many people. I had fun by the end of the night,” she said.
In February of 2020, the SGA Programming Concert/Coffeehouse Committee announced Quinn XCII, Public the band, and Social House as the talent for the Spring concert on April 3, 2020. This concert was canceled due to COVID.
No plans were made to host a concert in 2021 due to stringent COVID restrictions.
Carestin Stewart, a sophomore, said she didn’t even know Stonehill had a spring concert because it’s such a small school.
“I’m excited to see what it’s all about,” she said.
Macedo said the SGA Programming Concert/Coffeehouse Committee worked hard all year to plan this event. This Committee is open to all students and is chaired by junior Jacki Sauer.
“The students on [the] Concert/Coffeehouse committee will have a pre-show meet with performers. I would encourage students in the future to join this committee so that they can help in the planning and day of show experience. It comes with some nice perks!” Macedo said.
Students said they are excited about the upcoming event.
“I was excited to see X Ambassadors because I like their songs ‘Renegades’ and ‘Unsteady.’ I don't know any of their other music or anything from the other band, but I will definitely listen to more from both leading up to the concert,” MacIntyre said.
Alyssa Cimino, a senior, said she will definitely be there.
“I’m excited, especially because we got a band so well-known and popular to come in after we haven’t been able to have events as we have in the previous years due to COVID. It is exciting being able to make these transitions back, and it is going to bring a lot of fun to the spring after a tough few years,” she said.
