Flo Rida is coming Right Round to Stonehill

By Martha Savage

Get out your Apple Bottom jeans because Flo Rida will be performing at Stonehill’s spring concert this April.

The announcement was made at Brother Mike’s last Thursday, and was met with cheers , said Lina Macedo, Stonehill’s associate director of Campus Programs. The concert will be held at the Ames Sports Concert Field House on Sunday, April 12, from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

Flo Rida is best known for his single “Low” featuring T-Pain, and “Right Round” featuring Ke$ha. He has had several Billboard hits, including three that charted at number one, and eleven in the top ten.

Flo Rida was born in Carol City Florida, his rapper alias a tribute to his home state and his rap flow. He has performed at several colleges and universities across the country, including Penn State, Tufts, Purdue University Fort Wayne, and Quinnipiac.

Each year, Stonehill’s Student Government Association Programming Committee sponsors the spring concert. Several factors impact the artist that is selected to perform, including student interest, budget, and artist availability; SGA and the programming committee work with a middle agent to generate a list of potential artists who help facilitate the logistics of booking, said Macdeo.

“Our typical price range that we have is around $100,000 and this was significantly more,” said Macedo.

Macedo said that SGA generously supplemented the Programming Committee’s standard budget bring Flo Rida to campus this spring.

“One of the biggest hurdles that we have in trying to plan a concert is trying to appease multiple folks… we try to find a happy medium with that… but also, at the end of the day, one of the things we focus on most is what's going to be the best show,” said Macedo.

This year, the feedback has been “overwhelmingly positive,” she said. Student reactions indicate the same.

“It’s the most excited I’ve been for a spring concert in my four years here,” said senior communications major Mekennon Eon.

The DJ that will open for Flo Rida will soon be announced, said Macedo.

Tickets will cost $25 for current Stonehill students and $35 for alumni and guests. Guests can attend with a valid guest pass. Tickets will be sold digitally on the Hometown Ticketing app.

Those interested in helping with the planning and setup for the spring concert can join Concert Coffee House, said Macedo. Scan one of the QR codes posted in the Dining Commons to get connected with the Programming Committee.

To see Flo Rida live at Stonehill, be sure to show up to the Ames Sports Concert Field House on Sunday, April 12th, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
