An investigation is underway at Easton Country Club after two dirt bikers trespassed onto the green and caused thousands of dollars in damage on March 15.
According to a Stonehill spokesperson, the bikers accessed the grounds via an adjacent abandoned train track bed. In total, five greens were damaged.
This occurred just ten days after the College announced its agreement to purchase Easton Country Club.
A club staff member reported the incident, and Easton police took to their Facebook page to release photos of the dirt bikers. They asked the public for any information they may have of the individuals.
The Stonehill spokesperson said that as of March 20, the two individuals have not yet been identified.
The College will assume ownership of the facility on April 1. According to a Stonehill College spokesperson, Mark Lombardi, the club’s general manager, has been in communication with Stonehill to offer updates on the matter.
“Amid this transition, we will continue working with golf club staff to assess existing protocols,” said a Stonehill spokesperson.
The spokesperson confirmed that the College purchased Easton Country Club for $6.5 million after signing a Purchase and Sale Agreement earlier this month.
The 150-acre facility will become the new home for the women’s golf team next season. Following the announcement of the purchase, the College announced the addition of men’s golf as the school’s 25th varsity sport for the 2027-2028 season.
In a statement issued on March 5, the College said this acquisition “aligns with the priorities outlined in Stonehill 2030: Building Together, the institution’s five-year strategic plan, by reinforcing its commitment to holistic student growth.”
“This acquisition is a natural and meaningful extension of Stonehill’s mission. It will help increase our capacity to enrich the experiences of all students across academics, athletics, recreation and community engagement,” said Rev. John Denning, president of Stonehill College, in the institution’s announcement.
