Students rushed to get groceries after receiving an email that dining is to be take-out only following a campus-wide ten day quarantine starting tonight.
An email this afternoon from President Rev. John Denning, C.S.C., stated that the campus would begin remote learning for the next ten days starting at 6 p.m. tonight, leaving students wondering if they would be able to eat on campus.
A follow up email from Provost DeBrenna Agbényiga and Vice President of Student Affairs Pauline Dobrowski came nearly 30 minutes after the initial email, clarifying the situation by outlining protocols regarding on campus dining.
According to Agbényiga and Dobrowski, students will be able to eat on campus at the normal locations, but in-person dining will be suspended.
Students are expected to return to their rooms to eat their meals and food delivery services will be prohibited.
Residential students can also still utilize their residential kitchen to heat up or cook food, but cannot eat in common spaces.
This new information prompted students to dash out and grab last minute groceries before the campus went on lockdown.
“My first initial thought was the stock up on supplies to make sure I can remain on campus safely. I was stressed out about having to run around,” junior Giana Gualda said.
Gualda said that her stops included CVS for prescriptions, and Target for snacks and other easy to make foods.
Junior Matt Murray also went to Target quickly after the announcement. “I was definitely nervous going to the store knowing that all of Stonehill would probably be there too, but I felt like I had to go so that I had enough in my room to live for the next couple weeks,” Murray said.
Students will be able to eat at the Commons, Au Bon Pain, Gigi’s, The Hill, Dunkin’ Donuts, and The Sem Dining Hall during the ten day quarantine.
They are reminded to order their food ahead of time online using Bite University and keep six feet of distance between themselves and others when waiting in lines to pick up orders.
