Camp Counselor Accused of Raping Child on Campus

A 19-year-old working at a summer camp renting space on campus faces charges of child rape, authorities and court officials said.
Easton Police arrested James Cremins of Easton, Massachusetts on Aug. 7 on a warrant issued out of Taunton District Court.
Cremins worked for College Gate, a summer enrichment camp that offers STEM programming for students ages six to 15.
It’s a two-session camp that runs during the day. College Gate rented Stonehill’s facilities throughout July and the first half of August. Stonehill was not involved in the camp’s operations.
According to Taunton District Court officials, Cremins was arraigned on Aug. 7 and entered a plea of not guilty. Cremins is set to return court on Sept. 22 for a probable cause hearing.
He was released on personal recognizance.
“The alleged incident involved College Gate, an external organization that rented facility space on our campus earlier this summer. It did not involve Stonehill College employees and was handled by the Easton Police Department,” said a Stonehill College spokesperson.
Deputy Chief of Easton Police Philip Adams said Stonehill’s campus police assisted detectives.
“Easton Police arrested James Cremins, 19, of Easton, on Aug. 7 on a warrant issued out of Taunton District Court for rape of a child stemming from a prior incident that occurred at a camp held at the college campus. Because he's been arraigned, any further inquiries should be directed to the Bristol County DA's Office,” said the Easton Police Department.
Attempts to reach Cremins’ lawyer, Stacie Cooper, who was listed in court records, for comment were unsuccessful.
According to NBC10 Boston, the camp’s directors, Chris and Lisa Harrington, said Cremins no longer works for College Gate. They said all employees undergo annual Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.
It was unclear if College Gate would be allowed to return to campus in the future.
