BREAKING NEWS: The College lifts mask mandates

The Summit

BY ELIZABETH EDNIE AND KELLY LEWIS

Beginning Sunday, February 20, the College will revoke the mask mandate for almost all indoor areas on campus, according to an email sent this afternoon from Vice President for Student Affairs Pauline Dobrowski, and Vice President and General Counsel Thomas Flynn.

The College said they are following the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s recent advisory and guidelines concerning face coverings in the fight against COVID-19.

This announcement comes nearly two years after the state of Massachusetts announced a mandatory masking order for indoor spaces.

“With over 96 percent of our community vaccinated, we are confident that we are well-positioned to continue thriving this semester and beyond,” the email said.

According to the email, the use of masks will not be completely eliminated.

“Masking will still be required inside Health Services, the Athletic Training Room, and our Testing Center,” the email said.

Further, faculty and staff will be permitted to request masking for classrooms or other large settings. And those who test positive for COVID-19 or are identified as a close contact must wear a mask on campus.

The College also announced that residential students can now register to host overnight guests as of Friday, February 18.

“Resident students wishing to register an overnight guest should do so through the guest registration process in myHill,” the email said.

Dobroski and Flynn thanked the Stonehill community for their sacrifices and perseverance throughout the pandemic.

“Thank you for continuing to do your part to keep our campus community living and learning together in a safe and healthy environment for all,” the email said.
