Awards from the Catholic Media Association

The Summit

By Paige Fitzpatrick

Three Stonehill graduates were recently honored by the 2021 Catholic Media Association Student Journalism Awards for their work in The Summit.

Former Opinions Editor Emma-Cate Rapose ’20, placed third in Hot Topic: Current Events Affecting Student Life -Blog for her opinion piece, “Trying to find the light and hope.”

“My time as Opinions Editor for The Summit at Stonehill shaped me into the writer and person I am today,” Rapose said. “This article that I wrote in the early days of COVID, immediately after my senior year was cut short, is the piece of writing that I am proudest of, and I’m honored to have even been considered for this award.”

Two other former Skyhawks, Abagail Chartier ’21 and Anastasia Pumphrey ’21, earned honorable mentions for their articles, ‘Letters from professors spurs Zoom meeting;’ ‘Students in Action will lead a sit-in;’ and ‘Sit-in opens discussion on diversity to protest racial injustice.’

“I’m both honored and thrilled that a few of my pieces were noticed by the C.M.A. I was - and am - really passionate about the subject. Students In Action is doing great work, even beyond what I covered,” Chartier said.

This was the fourth time in the past five years that writers from The Summit have been recognized by the Catholic Media Association.

This year’s editor, Elizabeth Ednie, said, “I am very proud of my Summit colleagues and friends for their awards, and I really hope we can deliver some more awards this year!”
