Hey there Skyhawks,
We are in quite a different world today since the last time I wrote in this column. This is not the way I thought I would wrap up my time as editor-in-chief, but sometimes life takes a strange turn.
We overcame a lot this year. From budget battles, to selling ads, to handling a crisis situation in COVID-19, we continued to report the news that mattered to the Stonehill community no matter what.
I want to thank all of our loyal readers and supporters among the faculty, staff, and students. Your support is not taken for granted. Additional thanks to all those who we interview — our stories wouldn’t be possible without your cooperation and we truly enjoy working with you.
It’s a shame that not everyone on campus values the importance of this paper. However, I think in the last two months, we have firmly demonstrated why The Summit is indeed important and vital to the Stonehill community.
Was this the end of one of Stonehill’s oldest clubs? Would The Summit cease to continue? No. This was our finest hour. We’re still here and better than ever.
At the start of remote learning, within a matter of days, we went from an entirely print-publication to completely online. With the constant ever-changing developments of the global pandemic and its impact on our community, we continued reporting — despite the difficult circumstances.
From transitioning to remote learning, to moving out of campus, to the extension of remote learning, to room and board refunds, we were there reporting — all of these stories covered and published within 24 hours.
None of this would be possible without our dedicated writers and staff members. I’ve had the privilege of serving with exceptionally talented and selfless people, and I can’t remember another staff that was as close with each other as we were. I will miss you all and can’t thank you enough.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the younger members of the staff and I’m happy to pass the torch to our News Editor, Anastasia Pumphrey, who will be editor-in-chief next year. I know The Summit will thrive with her at the helm.
So long Skyhawks,
Max Peebles
Editor-in-Chief
The Summit
